MURRAY STATES PROGRAM OF DISTINCTION HOSTS THE FIFTH ANNUAL GOLF DAY

Murray States Program of Distinction in Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) will host the annual, AT&T Women in Telecom Golf Day, Sept. 16. Held at Murray States beautiful Miller Memorial Golf Course, this event, which is one of a kind in the region, was developed specifically for women in the telecom industry. The golfing activities are designed for women who do and do not know how to golf to come together for a day of networking and fun. AT&T has sponsored the event the past few years and continues its support this September. The Center for TSM at Murray State is asking for a $50 donation from each participant to help fund the AT&T Women in Telecom Scholarship that will be awarded to chosen females entering the Murray State TSM program for the 2010-2011 school year.

MSUs Regional Stewardship and Outreach fund projects in the region

Murray State Universitys Office of Regional Stewardship and Outreach announced the awarding of $229,693 for 2010-2011 to support ten projects throughout the region. Applicants submitted project proposals, which targeted educational attainment for K-12 students in western Kentucky.

Murray State University announces launch of West Kentucky AgBioworks to grow Bio-Economy

Murray State University announced today the launch of the West Kentucky AgBioworks initiative at the Regional Agri-Energy Field Day. This new initiative has received funding from the Governors Office of Ag Policy, local county Ag Development Boards and the Murray State University Office of Regional Stewardship and Outreach.

Great Beginnings at Murray State University

Getting off to a great start is the focus of "Great Beginnings" at Murray State. The program is held each summer on campus to help new students feel welcome and secure within their new surroundings. This is the 17th year for Great Beginnings and the festivities have become a fall tradition on campus.

Murray State University to host Regional Agri-Energy Field Day

Murray State University will host a Regional Agri-Energy Field Day at the MSU Pullen Farm and Arboretum Pavilion on Thursday, August 5, 2010. Registration will begin at noon, followed by a luncheon. The program will begin directly afterward at 1:30. This event is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, through the combined efforts of the following organizations: Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence, U.S. Department of Energy, Governors Office of Agricultural Policy, and Murray State University

AT&T DONATES MONEY TO MURRAY STATE CYBERCAVE

AT&T-Kentucky donated $2,000 to Murray States CyberCave Academy Program at the beginning of the summer to provide scholarships for students who were unable to afford the newly implemented camp fee. The AT&T scholarship money was awarded exclusively to students from Kentucky based on a variety of criteria. Twenty-six students selected were awarded scholarships, fourteen of which received money compliments of AT&T-Kentucky. Students were selected from a variety of cities in Kentucky including: Lexington, Crestwood, Louisville, Wingo, Hickory, Owensboro and Paducah. The Center for Telecommunications Systems Management (CTSM) provided funds for students to receive scholarships who lived outside Kentucky. Last year applications from 13 states were sent in to attend CyberCave Academy, this year applications from 11 states were received, including a student from Aman, Jordan.

Journalism and Mass Communications welcomes Graphic Communications to the College of Business at Murray State

Provost concert to air on KET

MURRAY, Ky. -- Murray State University The Provosts Concert---A Tribute to Retiring Provost Dr. Gary Brockway is scheduled to air on the Kentucky Educational Television (KET) network July-August. The concert was held on April 22, starring Alison Brown and Terry Mike Jeffrey and featuring the Murray State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dennis Johnson.

Associate provosts named to fill vacancies at MSU Drs. Renae Duncan and Jay Morgan to begin work in provost office

Officials at Murray State University (MSU) have announced the appointment of Dr. Renae Duncan and Dr. Jay Morgan as associate provosts, effective July 1. They will work with Dr. Bonnie Higginson, who will officially become the provost and vice president for academic affairs at MSU on that same date.

Regional Stewardship extends grants to community, outreach grows

MURRAY, Ky- After two successful years of project work, helping over 16,000 people in the 2009-10 academic year alone, Murray State Universitys Office of Regional Stewardship & Outreach will now be accepting applications from regional organizations for grants to be used toward programs focused on improving the quality of life in the region. Projects demonstrating the strongest alignment with educational attainment will be selected for funding.

MSU to reap benefit of $1 million gift Jones follows former large donations with this newest initiative

For Dr. Jesse D. Jones his gifts to Murray State University (MSU) are all about the students. His latest donation of $1 million in April clearly demonstrates the commitment he feels toward those seeking higher education. And while chemistry is close to his heart, this newest gift will impact many more students than just those majoring in that subject.

Two major initiatives will be funded through Jones most recent gift equipment for the college of science, engineering and technology (CSET) and a Racer Writing Center in Waterfield Library.

MSU establishes a School of Nursing

The Murray State University board of regents voted unanimously today at its quarterly meeting to establish a school of nursing, effective July 1, 2010. The department of nursing as an entity of the MSU college of health sciences and human services will roll over into a stand-alone academic school.
