MSU violin faculty presents solo recital

Come and enjoy a pleasant afternoon of classical masterpieces including the works of Handel, Bartok and Strauss performed by MSU violin faculty member Sue-Jean Park.

Park will present a solo violin recital accompanied by pianist, Jacob Clark, on the campus of Murray State University in the Doyle Fine Arts Center’s Performing Arts Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Author Ned Vizzini, keynote speaker for New Student Convocation, to hold book signing

Murray State University adopted the Freshman Reading Experience in 2002 inviting freshman to read the same book and be ready for discussion at Great Beginnings. The goal of the program is to find something that students can relate to and have in common when they arrive on campus.

This year’s featured selection is, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, by author Ned Vizzini. Inspired by the author’s own experience, It’s Kind of a Funny Story tells the story of Craig Gilner’s acceptance into a prestigious and competitive pre-professional school and his subsequent response to overwhelming pressure. When Craig becomes depressed and then suicidal, he checks himself into a psychiatric wing of a local hospital and in the process, rediscovers abilities and options he didn’t realize he had.

MSU school of ag hosts 5th annual Soybean Promotion Day at RSEC

Soybean Promotion Day 2009, a joint production of Murray State University’s school of agriculture and the Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 4-8 p.m., at the Regional Special Events Center in Murray. This fifth annual event features a sponsored meal and four hours of the latest news and information tips for farmers and agribusiness leaders throughout Murray State’s service region. The event and meal are free, however anyone planning to attend is asked to pre-register by calling (270) 809-3556 or sending an email to rhea.wright@murraystate.edu no later than Friday, Jan. 9.

Winter residency readings to be held at Murray State

Murray State University’s MFA program in creative writing and WKMS 91.3 FM are sponsoring a series of annual winter residency readings Jan. 3-7, 2009. Seven distinguished authors will be reading their works, with a reception and book signing to follow the readings daily.

MSU Readies for December 2008 Commencement

MURRAY, Ky., Dec. 5 — Murray State University is nearing the close of its Fall 2008 semester and the university’s annual December Commencement Exercises and Investiture Ceremony. Commencement will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Regional Special Events Center (RSEC) on campus. The university invites families and friends of graduates to attend the ceremony.

Nashville singer/songwriter Kaci Bolls returns for LovettLive concert
