MSU 2010 Next Generational Scholars

MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University American Humanics/Youth & Nonprofit Leadership program is proud to announce the recipients of the highly completive Next Generational Scholarships for 2010. Five MSU students applied for the scholarship and each were awarded: Kirby O’Donoghue, Susan Lawhead, Alexandra Simon, Kristen Smith and Beverly Wheatley. The Next Generational Scholarships totals $4,500 for each student and were designed to support students during their internship. The scholarships are funded by a generous grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Candidates for the scholarships must meet rigorous guidelines for service, academics and leadership and agree to participate in a multi-year longitudinal research study designed to illustrate the positive effects of competitive internship stipends on the recruitment and retention of skilled entry-level professionals prepared to enter the nonprofit field.

Kirby O’Donoghue is from Westview, KY and majoring in agricultural education with a minor in youth & nonprofit leadership. Susan Lawhead is from Glen Carbon, IL and majoring in liberal arts & Spanish with a minor in youth & nonprofit leadership. Kristen Smith is from Saint Louis, MO and majoring in electronic media with a minor in youth & nonprofit leadership. Alexandra Simon is from O’Fallon, MO and is majoring in international affairs with a minor in youth & nonprofit leadership. Beverly Wheatley is from Louisville, KY and majoring in print journalism with a minor in youth & nonprofit leadership.
