Murray State University equestrian hunt team to host last show of the season

The Murray State University equestrian hunt team will host a competition on March 6-7. This will be the last qualifying show for the district before the regional competition, which will be held March 12 in at Maryville College in Tennessee.

Murray State University hosts American Quarter Horse Association show

The Murray State University William “Bill” Cherry Agricultural Exposition Center (Expo Center) will be hosting an American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) horse show this weekend, Feb. 27-28. The Expo Center hosts four shows per year, with two in the spring and two in the fall. The next show will be held the weekend of March 27-28. The show is open to the public to watch with no admission charge.

MSU TSM and CFSB host second annual $ecurity Matter$ conference

The Patterns of Distinction Conference, hosted by the Murray State University Program of Distinction in Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) is not new to the MSU campus. In 2008, TSM joined forces with Community Financial Services Bank (CFSB) of Benton, Ky., for a Security Matters conference. This year’s Patterns of Distinction Security Matters conference will be held on April 8 in the MSU Curris Center.

Making the grade by turning her yard from drab to fab

For anyone starting to think about cleaning up their yards for the upcoming spring season, here is some advice from a pro. Murray State University graduate soil science student Dianna Johnson turned her yard clean-up project into her thesis for her master’s degree. After transforming her barren back yard into a flourishing garden, she wanted to analyze what she actually accomplished with the project.

MSU student takes second at Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists annual meeting

Master’s degree student Robert Tokosh recently received second place in a poster competition at the annual meeting of the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists. He completed his project titled “Comparing Organic Carbon Pools in Riparian Soils of Two Contrasting Watershed Ecosystems” with the help of Dr. Iin P. Handayani, assistant professor of soil science. Tokosh received a scholarship from the Kentucky Water Resource Research Institution, which funded his expenses for the project.

MSU HOSTS STATE TRiO DAY

MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University is hosting the state’s TRiO Day on Feb. 27 with approximately 300 students and staff from Kentucky and surrounding states. The students participating are active in one of the following programs: Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services, Upward Bound Math/Science, Educational Opportunity Centers, Veterans Upward Bound, and the McNair Program.

These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education Federal TRiO Grant. The goal is to promote equal opportunity and to provide access to higher education. Each program is designed to help underrepresented students overcome barriers to higher education by providing information, counseling, academic instruction, and tutoring, so as to improve academic performance, increase student motivation, and facilitate transitions from one level of education to the next.

“We are very excited to have this event on our campus,” said Myra Yates, Director of Murray State’s Upward Bound. “It gives the host institution an opportunity to showcase its many departments and programs on campus.”
